There is so much to consider when starting a blog. At the very least, I know that my blog contents will include various mental health topics such as: ideas for wellness activities, information on mental illnesses, professional inspirations, and lessons learned from volunteer experiences. I hope to get my first post of this nature completed within the next few months. In some ways, the content is easy. It comes much more naturally for me. But there are formalities to consider before I get further into content…
My “disclaimer”: In keeping with Standards of Registered Nursing Practice, Gail reserves the right to change details in order to protect the identity of clients – confidentiality will be maintained unless specific permission/consent is granted to release information by the specific individual or agency. As an RN, she would also like to remind people that health care information posted on the internet is subject to both reader & author interpretation. Thus the content by any author posted on the Kermode Counselling Services website is not intended, nor should be used, as a substitute for appropriate medical/health professional attention.
My thoughts on “intellectual property” & related items: Gail strives to ensure that proper credit is given to the appropriate source for information, statistics, or concepts/ideas. She appreciates & wants to honour the efforts that other’s put into their work. Photos posted are either Gail’s property, or used with the permission of the photographer who will be identified if the photographer so wishes. Organizational logos posted are done so with identity standards in mind, thus images might be re-sized, but otherwise are not altered by Gail. Although she welcomes users of the Kermode Counselling Services site to hard copy &/or electronically store &/or electronically forward site information for personal use, and/or to share the information with others, Gail requests that any information or idea that she has written about be properly credited to her. This includes information on the site pages and blogs.
These formalities are so formal. Can formal also sound friendly? – there must be a way to do both in this electronic world, so I will keep plugging away at learning the rules of electronic etiquette and how to be effective in relaying my thoughts.
I think I’ll also write about my adventures and “mis-adventures” as I travel through the internet world. This might include how long it takes me to figure out how to properly post disclaimers & property issues! Or when I should be writing in first person versus second person. How to hide codes and how to create links both remain a mystery to me. Yes, I have so much to learn still! Although many people say that developing your own website “is so easy these days”, I beg to differ. I find myself submerged in a whole new world. Like so many other things, securing the help of several professionals is may be what I need – a web designer, marketer, etc. I guess it’s only human to stubbornly forge ahead and try to earn my very own “a-ha” moments. That said, I’m also building my list of things I’ll ultimately need help with from those professionals. I also know that once I secure professional help, I’ll find out that I have so many other “issues” that my site needs help on. In my mind, these thoughts become circular and overwhelming. Sometimes it motivates me to learn more and indeed earn those “a-ha” moments. Other times I sit rather frozen in front of my computer. Feeling stuck and insecure.
Which brings me back to recognizing my human desire for independence on developing this weblog. This is simply where I am at. Well at least for today. So here are the choices I am making. I am dedicated to working my way through this, knowing that it’s ok to stumble as long as I treat each of those moments as a learning opportunity. And before I get tired of stumbling, I commit to doing honest self evaluations on a regular basis so that I will know when to get help rather than abandoning the project. Life is kinda like that.
Hopefully, you can be as patient with me as I am trying to be with myself.
Take care & thanx for visiting – Gail
